We are very pleased to bring you the 2019-20 Annual Report. We are always looking for opportunities to better serve our community. 2020 has proven to be a challenge for many of us so far, with COVID-19 impacting us in ways that we could not have imagined. However, we see every problem including COVID-19 as an opportunity to serve.
TEAM MECA partnered with local community groups and other service providers, partnered to tackle the problems at hand. Strength-based approach is central to MECA’s philosophy; everyone has something to contribute. Benjamin Disraeli’s statement still rings true when he said:
MECA believes in adding value to people. Therefore, TEAM MECA had a number of professional development training such as Infection disease control, First Aid, Stress Management and more.
We built a studio and named it “I have a Dream studio” with the support we received from NRMA. Following that we launched two digital platforms MECA Media podcast and ENGAGE MECA as a response to COVID-19. Under MECA Media we established a production team that creates, edits and produces online audio-visual contents including online health programs. ENGAGE MECA is an educational platform that gives our students, tutors/teachers and parents to safely engage with each other to learn and grow. I would like to thank my colleague Fadi Deeb for his creative solution and designing ENGAGE MECA.
Supporting young people has been the heart of MECA. When Jes Alexander, our former colleague moved to Wollongong for a new opportunity, Emma Smith joined the staff after being a volunteer with MECA for a number of years. She stepped up to the role of Mentoring program Coordinator for young people. She is a very creative and competent team player.
I would like to say simply thank you to all for your support and kindness. Finally, remember to tune in to our Facebook and Instagram pages for daily updates on what we are running at MECA, including our podcasts and focus groups. I hope this finds you and your community well, and thank you for your patience and support during these challenging times.
